BMX Biking Styles

BMX BIking STylesEver since BMX biking exploded in the '70s, waves of new riders constantly challenge the old school. Inspired by their heroes, they ride harder, jump higher, and invent new tricks to blow their friends away. The result? There are now so many ways to ride BMX bikes that it may be hard to focus on only one style. So don't. Experiment with different styles. Discover what works best for you.

In the beginning of BMX biking, there was dirt

Dirt track races throw riders around high-packed berms, jumps, and wheep-de-dos in a sprint for the checkered flag. It's fun to catch major air, but the key is smoothness on courses that combine single jumps, sets of doubles, sharp turns, downhill runs, and step-downs thrown at you at white-knuckle pace.

Freestyle Thrills

Freestyle BMX Biking is a dazzling display of acrobatics on a BMX bike combining balance, agility, and a reckless disregard for gravity. Different styles have emerged, but they all challenge common expectations of what's possible on a BMX bike:

BMX Flatland

BMX Flatland BikingFlatland removes the bike form tracks, jumps, ramps, or other props to bust it out on streets and in parking lots. IT builds on the basic of the wheelie and bunny hop to do the near impossible – like standing 360s squeakers, and tailwhips.

BMX Vert

Vert riders execute awe-inspiring aerial gymnastics by using both sides of a half-pip ramp to launch themselves high into the air. The higher they go, the more time they have to pull off their stunts. So these riders push it.

BMX Street/Mini

Street riders use curbs, stairs, benches, and handrails as their personalized jungle gyms. Mini is what you get when you take the street rider off the street and onto small courses featuring half-pipes, funboxes, and rails. Very similar to skateboards parks, these daredevil arenas can be found both outdoors and in.
