Selecting a Good Saddle, What is Important

Parts and ModifyFor all you who regularly finish rides with numb nether regions there are a growing number of quality saddles that don't look like rejects from a weird cushion design meeting. All the recent designs of fertility-enhanced saddles have the same aim in mind – after reports of cycling-induced infertility: to relieve pressure on the arteries running at the bottom of the pelvis.

These saddles, however, us a variety of methods to reach their shared goal: complete cutaway sections in the center of the saddle; those that fill cutaway bases with much softer foams, gels, or elastomer's; and, of course saddles which run a channel under the area, keeping weight on the pelvis' sit bones.

Saddle fit is a very personal thing, so we recommend that you try some out as best you can before you take the plunge. Generally they are not cheap and come with all the added bells and whistles, so expect the price to be 1,700 Baht or higher...

Obviously, the best time to choose a saddle is when you are buying your bike, as any quality bicycle shop should swap a new bike's saddle for the one you want. And finally, although any of these new anti-impotence saddles will be heavier than pared-down lightweight racing saddles many of us might be used to, we feel this one area to forget about added weight for a while.

The next time you see a middle-aged guy riding a ultra-lite racing saddle, he probably has already 5 children.
